The deputies all nodded, excited adrenaline pumping through them. “They’d just catch us,” Mindy said, tears brimming in her eyes. At the front was a black, armored nightmare. Ten of my SWAT officers were in there with submachine guns. “Governor Cantrell?” she asked. I had been in a few tight spots over the course of my career, but I had never been in the lion’s den before. “We’ve drilled this.”
“What are we going to do?” Carla sniffled. They all had AR-15’s, the civilian version of the M16, or combat shotguns slung over their black body armor.
